On the External Organization page of the wizard, you can specify a federated domain of the external organization and have the configuration information automatically discovered via the MFG as shown in Figure 10-9. Alternately, you can manually enter the configuration information in the bottom half of the screen.

Starting in vs_3_0, the output register set has been simplified to a single type of register, o#. The output registers now require declarations and semantics to make connecting them to pixel shader input registers easier. vs_3_0 contains the same dynamic flow control and predication support found in vs_2_x but no longer requires that special caps be set. vs_3_0 also adds support for texture sampling for the first time in vertex shaders. An important point to note is that for Get-FederationInformation to work, DNS records must be correctly configured so that Autodiscover is resolvable to an external-facing CA server. For example, for the preceding cmdlet a CNAME record must be in place to resolve autodiscover.contoso.com to an Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server that is accessible from the Internet. More serious and useful examples of action selector attributes are attributes that enable a method to execute only if it has been invoked through an AJAX call, if it has been invoked from a particular IP address, or if the request contains a given header.

In most cases, it is recommended to resolve any Autodiscover issues, if possible, and then create the organization relationship by retrieving the configuration information from the Microsoft Federation Gateway automatically.

Organization relationships allow for sharing of availability information between organizations. Sharing polices enable your users to share calendar and/or contact information on a person-to-person basis with external users in other federated Exchange Server 2010 organizations. This is independent of organization relationships, and requires the participation and consent of both users (the user in your organization and the external user the information is being shared with). Having a federation trust in place is a prerequisite to using sharing policies; although sharing policies can be defined without a federation trust, they have no effect without the trust. A sharing policy is comprised of the external domains to share information with, the level of detail allowed to be shared, and the mailboxes the policy is applied to. You can identify various levels of detail to share with the specified domains:

Even though IController and ControllerBase are defined and publicly documented, it s not recommended that you build your controllers from the ground up. Inheriting from Controller saves you a lot of preparatory work without limiting your programming power. The writing of a controller class can be summarized in two simple steps: creating a class that derives from Controller and adding a bunch of public methods. The definition of the range of methods that belong to a particular controller, instead, is a very delicate art and deserves a bit of preliminary analysis. Another point that deserves some attention is to decide whether or not you actually need to create your own application-specific base controller class.
